Ukrainian feminists stage topless protest in London against Islamic regimes

Four topless female activists were arrested yesterday after staging a protest near Tower Bridge in central London.

The women, from Ukrainian protest group Femen, were demonstrating against 'bloody Islamic regimes' which they claim are supported by the International Olympic Committee.

Police were called to deal with the protestors, who had slogans saying things like 'no sharia' written on their chests.

Pictures show women screaming as police held them to the ground in an attempt to cover them up.

A statement from Femen says: 'Femen requires the states that apply the laws of sharia be shut out of the Olympic games, because of the inhumanity of these laws, which are in total contradiction with Olympic principles that are peace and philanthropy.

'Femen accuses these states of simulating democratic changes regarding the position of women.

'With the support of the IOC, these Islamist governments use the participation of women in the Olympic games to hide thousands of victims and dead.'

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that four women were in custody for disorderly behaviour.

Femen, based in the Ukranian capital Kiev, were founded in 2008. They are known for their topless protests against sexism, sex tourists and international abuses.
