As Anne Hathaway gets set to reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia, we take a trip down memory lane and track down the Princess Diaries cast...
For those of us now in our mid-twenties, The Princess Diaries is a book-film franchise that's embedded in our collective teen consciousness, so our joy was all *too* real when it was revealed that Anne Hathaway is going to reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis and join the cast of The Princess Diaries 3. All hail the Princess of Genovia!
Yup, director Gary Marshall told People that when Anne's all done and finished having her baby, the third film is totally going to happen: 'I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,' he said.
'Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we're going to do it.'
Marshall also confirmed that some of the original cast members are set to make their PD comeback too. Ok - so he only talked about one cast member who 'maybe' making his return, but because that person is the dreamy Chris Pine, and we're hella excited about this too.
But all this speculation has really got us thinking - where is the original Princess Diaries cast at now? We've done a little digging to find out...
Anne Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis) Anne landed the role of gawky Mia Thermopolis, the school girl who, at 18

years old, found herself as Princess of Genovia (a small, fictional
European country that we totally looked up in our Atlas aged 11 after
watching the film). Since the franchise Anne's career has gone
stratospheric - she picked up an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Les Misérables
back in 2012, and today she's known for being one of the most
laid-back, lovely actresses in Tinseltown. Anne's expecting her first
child with husband Adam Schulman at the mo, and counts Jennifer Lawrence as a member of her clique, so it looks like she's definitely living her best life.
Chris Pine (Nicholas) After starring as the handsome gentleman Nicholas in 2004's Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement,
Chris Pine has become what's known as 'pretty big' according to the
film's director Gary Marshall. To anyone with all five senses fully intact, it's really no surprise that Pine's acting
prowess and dashing good looks have landed him lead roles in movie hits
like Horrible Bosses 2 (alongside Jennifer Aniston don'tcha know) and Into The Woods (with
heavyweights Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt). Additional fun facts about
Chris Pine include: the actor studied English at the University of Leeds
and he also describes himself as an 'agnostic'.
Robert Schwartzman (Michael Moscovitz) What a difference a few years makes, eh? Robert Schwartzman played Mia's
school crush and Lilly's older bro Michael in the first instalment of
the Princess Diaries, and although he was cute back when we were
like, 12, we're happy to say our crush on him as grown over the course
of 15 years because he's just got hotter. A quick stalk tells us that
Robert is fully focused on his rock-pop band Rooney and has even written songs for Demi Lov
Heather Matarazzo (Lilly Moscovitz) Heather's break-out role was in the first PD film
as Mia's geeky best friend Lilly, and as the recent pic from her
Instagram on the left shows, the two are still pretty close. Lilly
landed a few big roles after the 2002 teen flick, including Scream 3 (2000) and Saved! (2004), alongside Mandy Moore. The actress is also openly gay, and does a lot of work for LGBT rights.
Mandy Moore (Lana Thomas) After playing the popular preppy girl who makes Mia's life a misery in the Princess Diaries, Mandy went on to secure a number of high profile film roles. She got a lead role in Nicholas Sparks' A Walk To Remember (2002) and appeared in other rom-coms like Saved! (2004) and License To Wed (2007) as well as the 2010 Disney hit Tangled.
Before all this however, you might remember that Moore was actually a
pretty decent pop-star and continued to release music in between her
acting roles. In 2012 she was ranked 96 on VH1's list of '100 Greatest
Women In Music' and has released seven albums to date.
Julie Andrews (Queen Clarisse) Legendary actress Julie Andrews needs little introduction - she's been
busy since reprising her role as Clarisse in the second Princess Diaries
flick that was released back in 2004, and kept things queenly as the
voice of the, er, Queen in the animated Shrek films from 2004-2010. She also starred as Marlena in the kids flick Despicable Me and released her autobiography in 2008.
Hector Elizondo (Joe) Can you believe this man is now 79? Hector Elizondo played Mia's
tough-talking, protective bodyguard and has since had a whole heap of
roles in The West Wing, Grey's Anatomy, and most recently the comedy-flick Last Man Standing, which he was promoting in the pic on the right taken in 2015, when he was, incredibly, 78 years old.
We can't wait for the third Princes Diaries film to get underway...
