Oscar Pistorius reportedly broke down in tears after being formally charged over the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The South African Olympian and Paraolympian was seen shaking and sobbing after prosecutors said they would pursue a 'premeditated murder' charge over the death of his girlfriend.
OSCAR PISTORIUS CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER GIRLFRIEND IS SHOT DEAD
David Smith, The Guardian’s Africa correspondent, who was present at the court in Pretoria, tweeted: ‘Pistorius sobbing, shaking, almost bending over double in the dock as legal arguments continue.’
Magistrate Desmond Nair then spoke to Pistorius, saying: ‘Take it easy. Come take a seat.’
The prosecution dismisses earlier claims that Oscar Pistorius mistook his girlfriend for an intruder as she surprised him on Valentine’s morning, and instead argue he committed premeditated murder when he allegedly shot his girlfriend dead. South African police also deny the burglary and intruder claims.
The defense’s request for bail has been postponed until Tuesday and Pistorius will now be kept in a police station in Brooklyn, Pretoria.
