A new smartphone app designed to hail cabs from the safety of your own home has just been launched

A new smart-phone app launched last week could put an end to time spent on the street corner, searching for an available cab.

Kabbee, a free iPhone app, searches for the nearest taxi, sends it directly to the passenger's location and even pays the fare from your account.

The good news is that the service has already signed up 4,000 licensed minicabs; the bad news is that the app is currently only available to people in the Greater London area.

The app is simple to use, you just need to fill in your details, link your account to your credit card, then enter your destination to instantly obtain a range of quotes along with waiting times.

The driver offering the best quote is immediately dispatched to pick you up.

Kabbee is not the only app available to help banish personal safety concerns when hopping into a cab. Another free service, LDNtaxiApp, launched on the iPhone this summer, requires users to enter their destination to summon a taxi to them.

Details are sent out to any registered driver within a mile radius, and the first to respond picks up the fare. The user can even watch the progress of their taxi as it makes its way to them via an interactive map.
