Miley Cyrus is set to star in Woody Allen’s first ever television series.
The US pop-star is returning to her television roots five years after her run on Disney show Hannah Montana ended, alongside legendary director Allen, who is making his directorial debut on the small-screen.
A rep for Cyrus confirmed to E! News that Allen’s series will be streamed on Amazon. And although the title and theme of the project is still unknown, we do know that the show will be set in the 1960s and be comprised of six half-hour episodes. It has also been confirmed that Cyrus will star alongside Allen himself and screenwriter-actress-legend Elaine May, with the rest of the cast to be confirmed later.
Miley is thrilled to be returning to acting. She posted a painting of Woody on Instagram and wrote: ‘Fuck yeah ! Stoked to be in Woody Allens first series!!!!! I had claimed 2016 to be my year of "chillin the fuck out" but next to my bed for a few years now has been this portrait of W.A. & I was looking into his eyes when I got the call to be apart of the cast and work alongside the bad a$$ Elaine May & da dude himself! 1960zzzz here I cummmmm’

We can’t wait to see Cyrus’ acting prowess as a fully-fledged adult - and in 1960s glamour too.

Allen’s project for Amazon was originally confirmed last year at Cannes film festival when he told Deadline that the streaming giant had agreed a deal with him which meant he could write a series on whatever he wanted.
But the director also admitted that he didn’t know how streaming actually worked and was worried about the project. Speaking at the time, the 80-year-old said: ‘I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin… my guess is that Roy Price [Vice President of Amazon Studios] will regret this.'
But speaking last year, Price said: ‘Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it's an honour to be working with him on his first television series…Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn't be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.’
Although it’s hard to imagine the iconic director of Annie Hall and Midnight In Paris success creating anything less than another masterpiece, it will be interesting to see what he conjures up with Cyrus as one of his leading ladies, but we'll definitely be tuning in.
