Each week, more soldiers' names are added to the death toll in Iraq and Afghanistan, but what is life like for the partners waiting at home?
We asked three women to share their most recent letters to their soldiers on the frontline. See their stories, below.
Victoria Flemming, 27, lives in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Her husband Adam, 38, a corporal in 12 Logistic Support Regiment, has been serving in Afghanistan since March. They have four children.
Angela Nicholls, 34, a former soldier, lives with her two children in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. Her husband Ross, a Lance Corporal in the Household Cavalry, was killed in Afghanistan in 2006 at the age of 27.
Emma McKay, 22, and husband Lewis, 24, live in Ripon, North Yorkshire. They have a two-year-old son, Lucas, and Emma is pregnant. Lewis has served in Iraq and is now in Afghanistan with the 21st Royal Engineers. He has now decided to leave the army.
