Lena Dunham Thanks 'Hollywood Power Bitches' And Also Reveals Her Superpower
‘I want to thank all of you for brilliantly and stylishly cleaning up the mess that Hollywood has made of equality and diversity.'
‘I want to thank all of you for brilliantly and stylishly cleaning up the mess that Hollywood has made of equality and diversity.'
‘My fantasy has always been a room full of Hollywood power bitches enjoying breakfast foods, so this is really powerful for me’
Lena 'Voice-of-a-Generation' Dunham kicked-off The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Breakfast in LA with these words before addressing, with wit and honesty, the struggles still faced by women in Hollywood:
‘I want to thank all of you for brilliantly and stylishly cleaning up the mess that Hollywood has made of equality and diversity. After all, isn’t that historically what women have been asked to do to, clean up messes that don't belong to them? And that they’re not responsible for?'
Dunham also urged her industry colleagues to hire more female directors not just 'white dudes in polar fleeces'.
'I am not advocating for a world where women erase men from the workplace, as pleasurable as that might be for me on certain days,' added Dunham 'I am advocating for all of us here to make it our mission to use our resources and turn this around as a team … It’s the right thing to do and it’s the only thing to do.'
The breakfast gathering was also the first time Dunham has showcased her unique superpower: the ability to be in two places at once. During the speech, Lena 1 (the real Lena?) cracked a joke on stage and Lena 2 cracked a smile in the audience. A woman of many talents.
