Kate McCann's secret diary, which details her struggle to cope when her daughter went missing, has been revealed.
The diary discloses how she was consumed by 'black thoughts' as she came to terms with Madeleine's disappearance and the anger she felt towards her critics who judged her composure during press conferences.
In one extract it reads: 'Nobody should judge or criticise because, unless they have already been in this situation, they have no idea how they would be and certainly no idea how painful it is. NO IDEA AT ALL.'
Another entry demonstrates the depths of distress that Kate reached as she addresses her daughter: 'My sweetheart, my darling, my love, my companion. I love you more than anything.
'I'm going to dream that I'm lying by your side – moments I'll always cherish and I long to have again.'
The 40-year-old GP also criticises the Portuguese police in her writings, calling them 'morose' and revealing her frustration at their apathetic hunt for Madeleine, less than 24 hours after she disappeared.

Although previous leaks of Kate's diary have appeared in the Portuguese press, the full diary entries were published this weekend after a Portuguese journalist, who was appalled by the smear campaign against the McCanns, gave a copy of the diary to the News of the World.
