Judi Dench gets her first tattoo at 81 (and it's seriously inspiring)

Wondering what to get your grandma for her 81st birthday? How about a tattoo? According to the BBC, that’s precisely what Dame Judi Dench’s daughter gave her mother to mark her 81st year, and it was a huge hit.

Dench, a British national treasure, turned 81 last December, and she recently revealed to Surrey Life Magazine that her daughter, actress Finty Williams gave her a tattoo as a present. Dench has Carpe Diem inked in block letters on the inside of her right wrist. She told Surrey Life, 'That’s my motto: ‘Seize the day.’ Finty gave it to me for my 81st birthday — she’s wonderful with surprises.'

In her interview, Dench went on to say that her fellow cast mates in A Winter’s Tale jokingly insisted her tattoo meant something different than seize the day. 'Good, isn’t it? Mind you, the company of A Winter’s Tale, which I was doing at the time, used to say that it said fish of the day,' she said.

Ahhh! We don’t know what we love more…the fact that Dench got her very first tattoo at age 81, or that she’s clearly so down to earth that her fellow actors can tease her like that.
