Taiwan talent show contestant becomes YouTube hit with Whitney Houston song and draws comparisons to Susan Boyle's overnight success...
Taiwan talent show contestant Lin Yu Chun is becoming an internet sensation just like Scottish singer Susan Boyle after belting out a note-perfect rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You.' The 24-year-old - who even looks a little like Susan Boyle - has become a massive hit on YouTube and Twitter. His rendition of the Whitney Houston/Dolly Parton hit on karaoke TV show Super Star Avenue blew the judges away.
The amazing performance recalled the way Susan astonished Britain's Got Talent judges with her version of I Dreamed A Dream. The clip of her stunning Simon Cowell with the song from Les Miserables has now clocked up 90million hits on YouTube alone.
In his red bow tie and sporting a nerdy bowl haircut Lin is hardly a heart-throb, but on talent alone he is the bookies' favourite to pocket the £650,000 grand prize in the contest and secure an album deal, and, like Susan before him, shows you can't judge a book by its cover.
Lin used to lock himself in his room and sing along with records of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey, and said he had long suffered from a lack of confidence because of his plain looks and rotund figure, admitting that ‘being fat draws a lot of mockery in our society.'
He has already racked up some 1.3 million views on YouTube, and the number is climbing fast. He said the show could change his life: ‘I now have more confidence in pursuing a singing career. You don't have to be a good-looking man or woman to succeed. Just be yourself and try your best.' CLICK HERE FOR MORE WORLD NEWS
