Whether it's listening to a favourite song and rehearsing conversation topics in front of the mirror to sprucing ourselves up with a tan or wax appointment, between them Brits spend an incredible 15,000 hours each day getting ready to leave a lasting impression.
But it seems our pre-date rituals are often determined by where we live. While Londoner's are twice as likely to hit the gym and listen to a motivational song, 65 per cent of Yorkshire men and women will opt for a lucky outfit.
Fake tan does the trick for 95 per cent of daters from the North Westwhile Northern Irish women are twice as likely to go for a wax, but 69 per cent of Londoner's are more concerned with researching a first date beforehand.
'Anything you can do to boost your self-confidence and settle your nerves will help you enjoy that all important first date more,' says relationship expert, Kate Taylor.
The research, by dating website match.com, reveals that while women like to calm their nerves with a quick phone call to a friend, men prefer to concentrate on more practical concerns such as going to the gym or rehearsing conversation topics.
