New season shopping should always include an underwear drawer refresh. A pretty new bra and matching pants deliver the same level of smugness as a new unspoiled notebook, and the same ‘aahhh’ feeling you get from changing the bed sheets.
This season, a brand we’ve come to reply upon for both of the aforementioned is launching a range of subtly sexy lingerie. The White Company has long served as our go-to for the perfect white shirt, crisp bed linens and soothing candles, and now they’ve added a luxurious underwear line to their artillery.
‘Launching Intimates was a joy - knowing we were adding that extra element of everyday luxury to the brand mix,’ Barbara Horspool, clothing director at The White Company told us today. ‘Sitting perfectly with and complementing our popular loungewear collections, and also as part of our enviable lifestyle offer, this was a natural progression for The White Company.’
Designed in an intricate all-over floral lace, the collection includes a triangle-shaped bralette with matching classic bikini-style briefs (£34), comfy boy shorts (£22) and a scalloped-edge cami (£49) with a cute grosgrain ribbon trim that sits on the underwear-as-outerwear spectrum when layered over a cotton tee. It’s also super-useful for layering under knitwear or slipdresses. Available in a soft blush pink and a classic black, these are the core building blocks of your new season wardrobe.
With Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten and Marc Jacobs all championing the bra-over-tshirt look on the catwalk, and everyone from Cara Delevingne to Kendall Jenner embracing the peek-a-boo bralette trend with gusto, wearing one as a crop top under a dinner jacket with high-waisted silk pants is set to be one of the biggest eveningwear trends for autumn/winter. With that in mind, invest wisely in this season for your undergarments can no longer be an afterthought.
