THIS IS A MARIE CLAIRE ADVERTORIAL
Dan and Dean Caten, the design duo behind Milan-based fashion house Dsquared2, took inspiration from 50s beach beauties when designing their special SS14 eyewear collection. Named after three Hollywood icons, Bettie Page, Esther Williams and James Dean, each frame nods to the vintage star’s style, while using modern materials to bring up to date.
Expertly created by Marcolin’s craftsmen, both women’s styles feature mix and match clip-on pieces in different colours and materials. The Esther is an exaggerated cat-eye shape with large upswept lenses outlined in gold or rose gold metal trim, while the Bettie is a slightly softer, smaller frame. For men, the James is a classic squared-off lense – Dsquared2's nod to the achingly-cool looks of the original pin-up.
