Demand for men's tights soars as Selfridges orders supplies for winter
Forget briefcases and Blackberries: this season's hottest accessory for the man about town is - apparently - a nice thick pair of tights, designed exclusively for guysized legs.
Demand among male shoppers for pantyhose has been soaring over the past five years. And now Selfridges in London has responded by stocking a range of tights for men.
Designed by lingerie brand Unconditional, the tights are a super-snug 120 denier thickness. They come in black, beige and charcoal and will cost £70.
Just as many women wear Spanx to smooth over trouble spots, Mantyhose are usually worn by men under suits to keep the legs warm and to give the hips and thighs a nice smooth line.
David Walker-Smith, Selfridges' director of menswear and beauty, said: 'This winter the city's most stylish men will have a secret weapon hidden in their trousers. The "mantyhose" are extremely versatile and we expect men to be wearing them not only as a way to as a way to give legs an extra boost of warmth on the chilliest nights, but as a true style statement.'
