Kristen Stewart, Lupita Nyong’o, Suki Waterhouse and more turned out to celebrate their glam squads last night, as Marie Claire US hosted its first ever Image Maker Awards.
Paying tribute to all of those behind-the-scenes folk (stylists, hair gurus, make up artists and the like) who consistently make our favourite Hollywood stars look so damn glam, the six awards were presented at LA’s Chateau Marmont, with a party hosted by the Marie Claire US editorial team.
As the unsung heroes of the red carpet world, shuffling hundreds of gowns and trunks full of make up all over the world to keep up with their famous client’s schedules, it seemed quite right that the A-listers themselves should come along to celebrate their teams - especially as we’re now in the middle of awards season, an image-maker’s busiest time.
Adir Abergel, the man behind Rooney Mara and Anne Hathaway’s perfect tresses, won hair stylist of the year, while Jillian Dempsey, Kristen Stewart’s go-to MUA, won makeup artist of the year.
‘There are makeup artists, and then there are true artists,’ says Kristen of her friend. ‘That's what it takes to create an image. Jill falls under the latter. There are few of those in this business.’
Other winners included Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez’s colourist, Tracey Cunningham, and Sir John, Beyonce’s makeup artist, who was acknowledged for his incredible social media presence.

Michaela Erlinger (above), the stylist behind Lupita Nyong'o’s epic rise to fashion fame, took home the coveted Stylist Of The Year prize, celebrating her breadth of work with clients from Lupita to Michelle Dockery to Meryl Streep.
‘Fashion can be daunting, but Michaela makes selecting, fitting, and wearing these looks enjoyable,’ Lupita told the judges. ‘The Nairobi blue Prada dress I wore to the 2014 Oscars was created with her input, and it felt like having a piece of home with me that night.’
