Maison Margiela Paid A Beautiful Homage To David Bowie At Paris Fashion Week
Can we copy the look?
Can we copy the look?
Since David Bowie tragically died in early January, the tributes have come pouring in.
Kate Moss paid a sartorial homage to Bowie in the form of a T-shirt (and it wasn’t the first time she used clothing to express her admiration for the icon), there’s a petition to name Mars after Bowie and countless fans have spoken out about how he changed their lives.
Major fashion names have all imitated Bowie on the catwalk before, with the likes of Dior, Rodarte, Gucci and Jean Paul Gaultier gathering inspiration from the iconic singer’s legendary style.
And now, at Paris Fashion Week, Maison Margiela has paid a beautiful tribute to the late star by sending its models down the catwalk in Bowie-inspired make-up.
Although this isn’t the first time Margiela has channelled Bowie references, it’s more patent than ever before.
At the brand’s Spring Summer 2016 couture show, most models sported a pared-down beauty look, with natural make-up and blunt, choppy wigs – but a couple of them wore make-up and hair that couldn’t have been inspired by anyone else but the Starman in his Ziggy Stardust phase.

The models that stood out the most wore mullet wigs in a shade of red reminiscent of Bowie, as well as black, purple, green, turquoise and white.
It wasn’t just the hair that made a statement – McGrath also highlighted models’ individual eyes with glitter, sequins, strong lines and stars.
Some lips were painted in metallic hues, but the most notable looks of all were the models whose necks and faces had been painted with pronounced red lips.
We’re willing to bet that the legacy of David Bowie will continue to pervade the worlds of fashion, beauty and music for as long as we live.
