When Madonna clears out her wardrobe, she doesn’t do it by halves.
This weekend the music legend auctioned off 200 of her personal and professional items in what was described as the largest ever Madonna memorabilia auction. The two-day ‘Icons & Idols: Rock’n’Roll’ sale in Beverley Hills attracted mega fans and staggering prices alike, and made the pop star a cool £2million.
Among the collection of dresses, jackets and accessories were the instantly recognisable pink satin gown and white stole worn in the 1986 career-defining Material Girl video. All £46,000 of it.
And then there was the strapless white gown Madonna wore to wed Sean Penn in 1985. The three-time married star obviously decided it was time to move on and made a mere £51,000 in doing so.
But the piece that really caught our eye was the pyramid-embroidered jacket from the cult 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan. Clearly a stand-out favourite among the Material Girl’s fans, it was the highest selling item of the two-day auction selling for a cool £252,000. And the earring Madge wore with the jacket? Sold, for a winning bid of £21,000.
Admittedly all out of our price range but any excuse to look through the Madonna archives is a good one, right?
