London Fashion Week got off to a glittering start at the May Fair Hotel last night as diplomats, senior women in business and celebrities including paralympian Ade Adepitan and Olympian Tessa Sanderson gathered at a charity event showcasing the work of designers from across the Commonwealth.
The designers who took part included SIKA and Tina Lobondi, whose pieces represented Africa, Kitty Ferreira and Duchezz from the Caribbean, and Ekta Solanki and Shipra Malhotra from Asia. The outfits were accessorised with bags from Maltese designer Sunita Mukhi.
The stunning models also hailed from across the Commonwealth, while London Garments Expo directed the show.
The show concluded with a stunning full-length sequin and beaded crimson gown from the Jenny Packham Archive, which also featured in the designer's 25th Anniversary Catwalk Show at the V&A in July.
The event, Splendours of the Commonwealth, was organised by the Commonwealth Countries' League Education Fund (CCLEF), a charitable education sponsorship scheme for girls, which has helped thousands of impoverished young women across the globe gain secondary schooling.
