Giambattista Valli Launches Denim Collection With 7 For All Mankind
Giambattista Valli’s collaboration with 7 For All Mankind has come just in time to save the skinny jean. Even with SS15's catwalks laden with Seventies throwback flares, we’re still refusing to bin our trusty skinnies – reflected in Valli’s first-ever foray into denim, which has given the classic jean silhouette a colourful do-over this spring.

Italian designer Giambattista Valli – master of the red-carpet gown for celebrities from Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike to Rihanna (remember her huge sugar-pink dress at the Grammy Awards last month?) – has teamed up with denim powerhouse 7 For All Mankind to take on the trend of the season, denim. Check out the collection in our picture gallery above.
Speaking to WWD, Giambattista Valli revealed denim pin-ups, such as Brooke Shields in her Calvin Klein days and disco diva Diana Ross at Studio 54, inspired the collection. 'Denim fascinates me, as I am naturally drawn to exploring new grounds. In this respect, 7 For All Mankind is an excellence, so pairing with them came as a natural choice,' says Giambattista Valli. 'I used denim as a canvas on to which project my vision, thinking of a decidedly young, multicultural clientele of glamorous Valli girls. I worked on both shapes and fabrics, delivering jeans with a strong identity, quite unique for cut and treatment.'
The chic capsule collection injects Valli’s couture genius into a line of seven high-waist skinny jeans, as well as matching T-shirts in bright hues. Skinnies are given a punchy makeover – inspired by Valli’s Haute couture animal motifs and lipstick shades. And it's a fraction of the price of his couture creations – starting at £210. We’ve got our eye on a luxurious matte-coated red pair below.
Long live the skinny jean…
