Culottes: Here's How To Wear SS15's Hottest New Trouser
We are obsessing over culottes this season so here's how to wear them
We are obsessing over culottes this season so here's how to wear them
We have been spotting them everywhere from the catwalk to the stylish showgoers that we have seen over fashion month; and now they are making their way into stores. But before you shy away from the new fashion leg statement, we're about to tell you, YES: you can wear culottes this spring. They offer the perfect balance, with the practicality of a trouser yet the elegance of skirt. So before you panic about looking like a sack of spuds with your ankles showing (yes, we did too, don't worry!) Here's how to style them and look utterly chic for any occasion.

Go Big Or Go Home
To channel this SS15 trend properly; then be brave and jump into a set of big bloomer-style culottes like these. The bigger the better in our eyes. Going for a tailored look is a great way to make them look more structured and less like you are about to take off into space. Tucking your top in is essential to define your waist so it doesn't look like you are wearing too much fabric. To finish a heel is a great way to lengthen your leg, especially if you are quite short and want to elongate your legs.

Believe it or not; the culotte is also your new denim style. No longer are the days of the skinny jean, or the boyfriend jean... It's now all about a more sophisticated smarter trouser style. These Warehouse culottes are super sleek and give you a clean, modern look. The stiffer fabric of the denim means they keep a great shape while still being really comfortable. If you have a smaller waist then here's your way to flaunt it as these will fit like a glove and be the ultimate head-turner. A lightweight top is ideal for this option as you want to keep it simple and not too overdone. Team with a brown wooden heel and you are also hitting all the high notes of the 70s trend, which is our favourite SS15 trend to wear right now.

Time To Dress Down
Hurrah! At last we have found the most comfortable trousers EVER – and no, we're not talking about your pyjamas! It's all thanks to the culotte we have found a trouser that's so comfy we can run around all day in them all day while still looking really smart. A lightweight fabric such as these navy ones we have spotted look super-comfy and are great if you want to go for a style that isn't too figure-hugging. We're obsessing over this dress-down look, which is perfect for the weekend worn with a trainer. Go for a simple white trainer such as Supergra or even a classic Adidas Stan Smith to achieve an effortlessly cool look.
Go Shorter For Summer
Now that spring is upon us we have started to think about summer. So as it starts to get a little warmer we can start to think about showing a little more leg (sudden gasp!) But fear not; the culotte is the smarter answer to summer dressing. Go for a shorter option to channel a great spring look that can be worn with a lightweight blouse or shirt. Add a sexy heel and these culottes are good to go for a night time look as well. These dreamy suede versions from Theory are going straight to the top of our wish list.
