Celebrity trend: Stars love summer hats!
How hat tricks have taken over Hollywood
How hat tricks have taken over Hollywood
Hats are ruling celebrities' heads this summer! Cropping up in all shapes and sizes, everyone from Kate Moss to Kate Hudson is sporting the trend.
Not only do they look super-cool, they’re a great way of protecting your face from the harmful rays of the summer sun.
So what type of hat should you be plumping for to look bang-on-trend this season?
We’ve split stars’ summer hats into five key looks to help you get ahead:
Trilby: Definitely the top of the hat pack, this style is the hottest headgear for summer 09. A host of stars have been spotted sporting this look, which usually comes in felt or straw, from Anne Hathaway and Kylie Minogue, to Cameron Diaz and Jessica Alba. You can team yours with practically any summer ensemble, but we particularly love Jess’s with her gorgeous turquoise maxidress and flats. So what characterises a trilby? An indented crown and a pinch at the front.
Fedora: Recalling the glamour of the 70s, fedora hats look gorgeous paired with high-waisted jeans. But celebs are styling them up in all sorts of ways this summer, with Kate Hudson glamming hers up with a fab dress to watch the polo, and Anna Friel donning hers with shorts and gladiators at a festival.

Panama: Not to be confused with a trilby, a panama hat is also a straw hat, but with a rounder crown and flatter sides. Look to Lindsay Lohan for perfect panama chic.
Military: Stylista Victoria Beckham has been spotted on a number of occasions rocking a military cap. But it’s not just Posh that loves the trend – Beyoncé’s been snapped working it, too.
Cowboy: Cheryl Cole and Elle Macpherson are probably the cowboy hat’s most avid fans, with Cheryl turning to hers every time she hits the beach, and Elle teaming hers with tees and jeans. Britney Spears is also an advocate. Just add aviators for the ultimate cool finish.
Other hat trends making waves include baker boy caps (Paris Hilton) and 30s-inspired decorated hats (Chloe Sevigny, Diane Kruger), and boaters.
