We have to take our hats off to the ultimate in stylish fashionistas: the Parisians. Here's how to get the look...

It's the minimalist girl's dream wardrobe, featuring classic pared-back pieces with chic tailoring aplenty. And better still, it's totally achievable and totally wearable. So if you want the ultimate Parisian-girl style, then look no further: here's how.

Keep. It. Simple.

If there is one French girl to turn to for ultimate style inspo then of course it is going to be model and music producer Caroline De Maigret who always gets it spot on. She is the perfect example of less-is-more; and actually all you need in your wardrobe is some great simple staple pieces. A tailored jacket or blazer will be your go-to cover up for both day and night, so make sure you get one you LOVE and feel great in. If you don't already have one in your wardrobe then invest in a cosy cashmere jumper from M&S in a couple of neutral colours (ALWAYS by neutrals). Finally; get yourself a great pair of tailored trousers; we're obsessed with COS and Zara for these as they tend to fit great so super comfy for both work and weekend. It's all in the styling.. you don't need to have a wardrobe that takes over half your house (and all your monthly wage!). Invest in these simple staples NOW.

Your Key Piece

If there is only one piece you buy to channel Parisian style, make it a cool white shirt. And we don't mean the standard white slim-cut shirt you may be used to; look around to find a quirky cut or oversized version and style it your way. Like the beaut French Actress Clemence Poesy; either roll up the sleeves, or partially tucking it in will give it a worn, creative look. We think it's worth investing in one that's a little more expensive as you will absolutely wear it to death (we promise!) so take a look at what Bimba Y Lola or Baum Und Pferdgarten stock; you'll be surprised at what amazing shirts are out there.

Drape Your Jacket

For Gallic cool, then this will be your secret styling weapon, and take it from a women who knows. After years of photographing street style at the shows Garance Dore knows how to truly woo. Whether it be your lightweight leather or your mid-season coat, drape it over your shoulders rather than wear it properly. Who said jackets were needed to keep us warm!? Imagine a lovely French gentleman has gently placed it upon your shoulders after wonderful dinner and own it (despite the reality, that you have just stepped off a busy tube and slung it over yourself). And of course, you will be wearing it over your amazing tailored COS trousers and oversized classic grey knit from Zara.

Still Look Chic In Denim

Just because you are having a dress-down day doesn't mean you need to compromise on your level of chic. French Editor Emanuelle Alt is a fine example as she opts for a skinny-leg jean to keep it smart and make sure you choose a cropped style, or turn them up. It's surprising what a little flash of the ankle can do for your look! When teamed with a classic heel, you are instantly more feminine and totally sophisticated. Keep the rest of your outfit smart to tick all boxes in the Frenchy-fash-gal's check list; a smart mid-length tailored jacket and your M&S cashmere sweatshirt will do just fine! It's all about great staples.

Head To Toe White

Carine Roitfeld flawlessly demonstrates that YES you can wear head to toe white but make sure you do it right! It's a standout look but it must be pristine to look like a true Parisian. Relaxed tailoring will be your friend if you are going for an all-white look; we are obsessed with a jacket and skirt combo for spring. It doesn't have to be bought as a matching set, but your shades must match (who knew there were different shades of white?)

Now all you have to do is keep it clean; steer clear of the beef bourguignon!
