Teen heartthrob Zac Efron has revealed he was thrilled to share a kiss with Michelle Pfeiffer in their new movie, New Year’s Eve.

Despite the 29 year age gap, it seems Zac Efron, 24, still fell for Michelle Pfeiffer's charm when he admitted kissing the 53-year-old actress was the highlight of the film for him.

Appearing on The Today Show last night alongside Michelle, Zac revealed their smooch was 'the best part' of New Year's Eve.

When the host asked if the age gap made this kiss awkward to film, Efron immediately jumped in, saying: 'Are you kidding? It's the best part in the movie!'

It seems it was also Efron who cheekily came up with the idea to add a kiss to the scene, which was originally not scripted.

The High School Musical star admitted, 'It was kind of our idea! We really wanted to spice it up.'

He told Hollywood Access: ''In my mind, the way I pictured it, it was going to be perfect, very romantic, very leading man.

'Then of course, as we went to film it, right when I went to dip her, a huge piece of confetti went straight into my mouth. I didn't want to finish the kiss like that, so I spit and went for it. That's actually in the movie.'

Michelle, who said at first she was a little nervous about the scene, added: 'It wasn't very sexy, but it was cute.'

The co-stars originally met on set of their 2007 musical hit Hairspray, and hit it off so well that Michelle called up Zac to persuade him to play the New Year's Eve role alongside her.

The actress called the actor, leaving him a voicemail about the role of a bike messenger. Efron said: 'It was a killer voicemail to get - I probably still have it one my phone!'

It seems another celebrity friendship blossomed on set as well. Actress Lea Michele has revealed she had a soft spot for co-star Ashton Kutcher, but felt, 'he was out of my league'.

The film, released in the UK next week, also stars Hilary Swank, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, and many more.
