After the actor posted a throwback picture of himself with short hair, the internet went a little mad...

Jared Leto posted a picture of himself that shocked and horrified the entire world on Monday afternoon.

Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration. But it certainly had his die-hard fans a little rattled.

Over recent years the rocker-actor has become known for his ridiculously beautiful long hair. And that love affair with his ombre tresses was only amplified with all the pre-Oscars press (and sexy photo opps) the Dallas Buyers Club star did this year.

So his followers were understandably surprised when he posted a snap of himself with cropped strands to Instagram on Monday. 'Short hair don't care,' he captioned the pic.

Of course, a true Leto fan would notice that this picture was actually taken a few years ago. But because the 42-year-old Oscar winner failed to include an identifying hashtag (#TBT, #FBF, #throwback...) his followers proceeded to freak out a bit.

The post now has more than 4,000 comments, most of people begging Jared to grow his hair back out or praying that the picture isn't real.

Luckily, he shared another Instagram pic on Tuesday night, this time showing his long locks in all their glory. And judging by the caption, it appeared to be a current snap.

Though some of the reactions to Jared's cheeky snap were a bit strong, we can totally understand how the sudden and shocking loss of those luscious locks could shake a true Leto lover to her core.

Please, Jared. Next time you're feeling nostalgic for your short hair days of yore, include a courtesy time stamp with the snap.
