Dannii Minogue and Kris Smith's split has been a shock, so it's no wonder that speculation as to the reasons behind their break-up is mounting.

While, Minogue, 40, recovers from the split on Hayman Island in the Great Barrier Reef, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive.

Reasons varying from a tacky Christmas present to accusations of cheating have been given.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph reports that Kris was sick of the impact Dannii's career had on their lives, especially how much her parents, Ron and Carole, got involved. A source said: 'Kris is just an easygoing guy... He's not up for all the stuff that goes along with being part of the Minogue corporation.'

While other friends of the couple say it was the passport holder that Kris gave Dannii for Christmas that was the final nail in the coffin, as it was seen as a dig at Dannii's jet-set lifestyle.

A friend apparently told the Mirror: 'There have been lots of problems and the pair were living increasingly separate lives.

'Dannii is a workaholic, Kris wanted her to slow down and enjoy life a bit more, but you don’t tell a Minogue that.

'Dannii is a perfectionist – she lists everything around the house like chores on little Post-it notes – they are everywhere and when things are tense this kind of thing can cause a row.'

In the past Kris has also been linked to other women including models Lauren Phillips and Jennifer Hawkins.
