The Duchess of Cambridge shunned a soppy gift in favour of a pair of Ralph Lauren boxer shorts, which she posted to the Falkland Islands, where Prince William is currently serving as an RAF search and rescue pilot.

The Sun reported that Kate spent £25 on the Polo Ralph Lauren Pouch Trunks from the John Lewis Peter Jones store on the King's Road in London.

A member of staff told he newspaper: 'The shorts are very popular and very trendy.

'Kate knew what she wanted when she came in and went for the boxed trunks that give a very nice fit.'

While on a charity visit to the Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool on Tuesday, the Duchess revealed that she had received flowers and a Valentine’s Day card from Wills.

During the trip, Kate caused some laughs as she revealed she's a big fan of the reality TV show, The Only Way Is Essex.

She apparently told one member of staff at the hospital that she never misses an episode and that Lauren Goodger is her favourite.
