The Duke of Cambridge puts 29th birthday celebrations on hold

The Duke of Cambridge turns 29 today, but it seems his birthday celebrations will have to be put on hold.

Instead of enjoying a day at home with Kate, it's thought William reported for duty at RAF Valley in Anglesey, where he’ll spend the day working as a search and rescue pilot.

It’s thought the birthday boy was called in to work following warnings of stormy weather in North Wales, meaning there's a higher chance of climbing and hiking accidents in Snowdonia, the area covered by his squadron.

And reports suggest William might not make it home this evening either, as he’s usually required to work shifts of up to 24 hours at a time. 

This is the second year running the Duke has had to work on his birthday, but St James’s Palace has confirmed Willliam ‘would expect any special provision’ and would be reporting for duty just like everyone else.

A spokesman said it was ‘a normal working week for the Duke and he wouldn’t expect any special provision or day off for his birthday’.

It’s thought the Duke and Duchess will fit a small, low-key celebration around William’s working hours, celebrating with friends at their home near the RAF base.

The last time the pair celebrated William’s birthday together was back in 2009, when they reportedly snuck off to Cornwall, under the names Mr and Mrs Smith.
