On the red carpet of the London premiere of One Direction's new documentary, This Is Us, the 53-year-old impresario confirmed to the BBC that he is expecting his first child.

'I'm proud to be a dad,' Cowell told BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba. 'It's something I hadn't thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it. Things are changing in my life right now, for the better.'

Reports have been circulating in the press for the past few weeks that Cowell's friend-turned-paramour, New York socialite Lauren Silverman (who is currently embroiled in a messy divorce from her real estate developer husband Andrew) is pregnant, but neither party has confirmed the news until now.

While pregnant Lauren is home in New York and Cowell invited exes Sinitta and Mezghan Hussainy to the premiere in Leicester Square, he did share some kind words about the mother-to-be, telling the BBC that she's 'a very special girl.'

The notorious bachelor was supporting his other 'babies' last night, the boys of One Direction, and joked that he feels like 'a proud father' to see the band's film come to fruition.

Here's to hoping his little one is as cute as Harry Styles. Massive congrats, Simon!
