Beam me up Scotty! Star Trek premiere hits London
The Trekkies were in their element at the London premiere of the new Star Trek movie last night.
Hailed a ‘geek dream come true’ by Brit actor Simon Pegg, the movie cast – including Eric Bana and Heroes’ Zachary Quinto - were met by hoards of fans wearing… Spock ears, of course.
The revamped movie sees an all-new cast, directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams, and for those of you who followed the series avidly, chronicles the early days of the Starship Enterprise, welcoming original Spock Leonard Nimoy back in a cameo role.
Pegg, who plays Scotty in the updated film, described the night as ‘very special’, adding: ‘I love the Star Trek fan base. They are world leaders in positivity.’
London's Leicester Square saw a veritable feast of Brit showbiz talent turn out for a spot in the sunny evening limelight. Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman, Jeremy Clarkson, Jonathan Ross, Lorraine Kelly and Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom Chambers and his wife Claire all let their closet Trekkie status out for the night.
We’re pretty sure the premiere invite didn’t state: ‘Star Trek fancy dress for red carpet access’, but that didn’t stop Thierry Henry’s ex-wife, Claire Merry, from rocking up in a spandex all-in-one metallic catsuit, with more than a nod to the sci-fi series.

Oblivious to the turning heads, Merry strutted down the blue carpet showing off her envious slimline shape and plunging neckline. Maybe the ensemble was a dare by her date for the night, DIY presenter Nick Knowles, who arrived in an electric blue shiny suit – again without a hint of irony…
