Sarah Michelle Geller, AKA Buffy The Vampire Slayer recently took to Instagram to share her personal battle with postpartum depression to her followers.
'Having kids is wonderful, and life changing, and rarely what you're prepared for. I love my children more than anything in the world," the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress wrote. "But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born. I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift I could ever have asked for.'
The actress, 40, has Charlotte Grace Prinze, seven, and Rocky James Prinze, five, with her husband, actor Freddie Prinze Jr. and in her post, she expresses her own experience with postpartum depression, as well as encouraging others to open up about theirs and to petition for it to be covered by healthcare in America.
And she's not the first star to open up about postnatal depression, Adele admitted to feeling 'very inadequate' and John Legend described his wife Chrissy Teigen's postnatal depression with this frank description: 'You don’t see it coming. You’re not emotionally prepared for someone that’s going through a dark time as you’re welcoming this new life.'
Let's hope this starts up more of a conversation on the condition.
