Ryan Gosling's latest movie, Only God Forgives, has received very mixed reactions, with some people booing and walking out of the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Hollywood hottie skipped the film's screening in Cannes because he's currently in Detroit, Michigan, filming his directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster.
Despite the strong reaction to Only God Forgives, an extremely violent film which stars Gosling as a criminal living in exile in Bangkok, who then goes on a revenge mission after his brother is murdered, the film has received some glowing reviews from critics.
The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw said it was: 'emotionally breathtaking, aesthetically brilliant and immensely violent thriller.'
Adding: 'Only God Forgives will, understandably, have people running for the exits, and running for the hills. It is very violent, but Winding Refn's bizarre infernal creation, an entire created world of fear, really is gripping. Every scene, every frame, is executed with pure formal brilliance. I'm afraid it's going to be even nastier the next time I watch it.'

But Geoffrey Macnab from The Independent disagreed, writing: 'A visually stunning film from the same director as Drive which is let down by a clunky plot that would barely pass muster in a grade B film.'
While the Telegraph's Robbie Collin sat somewhere in the middle, summing the film up as 'a beautiful disaster.'
The film, out in the UK on 2 August, is one of 20 in the race for the festival's Palme d'Or prize.
