Russell Brand: I Didn't Cheat On Katy Perry

Russell Brand has finally opened up about his divorce to Katy Perry, and insists that he didn't cheat on the singer

Russell Brand has spoken about his marriage to Katy Perry and insists that he wasn't to blame for their divorce, despite rumours in Hollywood suggesting he may have been unfaithful to the singer.

Talking about their relationship in a new interview with Esquire, he admits that he thinks fame has something to do with why the pair couldn't make their marriage last.

He says: 'Some of it's the fame, but I think getting married is – you've got a whole other person that you've got to make as important as you.

'When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think.'

He continued: 'But it's going to be hard if I go into a monogamous relationship. I live a life where I have a lot of freedom, so if I meet someone and I go, 'Right let's be monogamous', that's a f**king change.'

The couple wed in an intimate ceremony in India in 2010. Russell then filed for divorce from Katy in June 2011 after just 14 months of marriage. But he doesn't regret marrying the star – in fact – he says he 'loved it'.

He added: 'I tried it and I loved it. I really think [Katy's] a lovely beautiful person. It's just hard, isn't it? She's got a lot of options, I've got a lot of options, so you've got to really, really want it.'

Katy has had a high-profile on/off relationship with John Mayer for the lastyear. Pictures emerged earlier this week of what looked like John moving into Katy's new LA home, despite the fact they split months ago. She's also been spotted hanging out with Robert Pattinson.

When asked about the rest of his love life, Russell told the magazine: 'I've given over too much of my life to its pursuit. And I've probably harmed other people, by being selfish."

"And really, I'd like to be married. I'm just not transmitting that frequency of 'Soulmate! Soulmate!' I'm transmitting the frequency of 'Mmm!'.
