Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed a healthy baby boy last night but have yet to announce the name of their newborn son – will it be Prince George
Kate Middleton and Prince William have yet to announce the name of their newborn son, who was born naturally last night at 4.24pm, weighing 8lbs and 6oz. According to royal sources, it could take several days for the couple to release further details of the royal baby boy.
Bookies however, have slashed odds on their royal baby names, revealing that George is now the favourite to be the future King's first name at 4/1.
Bookmakers have saved £250,000 with the news that the royal baby is a boy. A baby girl had been gambled on down to 1/2 with Coral ever since the Duchess of Cambridge appeared let slip she was expecting a daughter when talking to a well-wisher earlier this year. Alexandra had been the public's favourite name for a girl, with many hoping Diana to feature as a second or third name.
Wagers are now being placed on the future King's name and George is currently in the lead, with James running a close second at 5/10 and Henry at 10/1.
A spokesperson for Coral told us: 'After a long wait, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the huge gamble on a Royal baby girl turned out to be misplaced. Punters are now hoping to get their revenge on the bookies by predicting the name of the baby and George is the name that is already proving most popular.'
If the couple did decide on George, the newborn's name would be Prince George of Cambridge. But it's unlikely that a name will be released today - or anytime soon. Princess Diana waited several days before announcing the name of Prince William back in 1982.

The Duke of Cambridge has said he 'couldn't be happier' at being a father. He stayed overnight with his wife and newborn son and the pair are expected to emerge with the baby later today, posing for photographs outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital before heading home to their new home at Kensington Palace, Apartment 1A. SO exciting.
