Prince William has sparked speculation he is on social media.

First Meghan Markle had people thinking she was running Sussex Royal's Instagram account, and now her brother-in-law appears to have followed in her footsteps.

On Tuesday night royal fans noticed something very unusual on Twitter. The women's football team, The Lionesses, shared a cryptic video on their official page, which Kensington Palace replied to.

The reply received a lot of attention, not only because it is rare Kensington Palace post anywhere other than their page, but also the comment itself.

Kensington Palace's response was simply the eye emoji, and it was this modern way of communicating through picture images that has people thinking the Duke of Cambridge - who is the president of the Football Association - is running Kensington Palace's page.

The next hint came when Kensington Palace congratulated Liverpool FC on their win.

The post read: 'Well done Liverpool - an incredible result, what a comeback!'

Royal fans took to social media to share their thoughts on who is behind the royal Twitter account.

One shared: 'Who gave William the new password?'

Another commented: 'This is definitely William', while a third added: 'I really want this to be William because I really really want to know he uses emojis!'
