Earlier this year, Hollywood was abuzz with whispers movie execs were planning a new biopic of late singer Jeff Buckley, with everyone from James Franco to Jared Leto and Andrew Garfield being tipped to land the lead.
Twilight actor Robert Pattinson soon emerged as reported frontrunner for the role, with insiders saying he was ‘obsessed’ with winning the part. But now it seems poor R-Patz has fallen at the final hurdle.
According to reports, Gossip Girl actor Penn Badgleyhas been cast in the part, and is 'thrilled' to land a part in the new music movie.

Earlier this year, movie bosses revealed they were on the hunt for a musician to play the late singer, and were only considering actors who could sing.
‘The actor must be able to play music and sing, or at least make it believable,’ producer Michelle Sy said of the casting.

Although R-Patz does fill all the criteria, it’s rumoured Penn was awarded the part because his voice sounds very similar to the famous American Hallelujah singer.
‘Penn is thrilled to get this role and thinks it’s the film of a lifetime,’ one insider reportedly revealed of Penn’s movie news. ‘He’s been trying to push out of the 'Gossip Girl' image and knows this film will be the perfect opportunity to do so.’
According to insiders, Rob Pattinson is ‘devastated’ over losing out on the part, which he’s thought to have been chasing for for over a year.
‘Robert Pattinson is devastated he’s lost out on the one role he really wanted,’ one source told MTV. ‘It was down to Rob, James Franco and Penn for the part, and Rob was really pushing himself to get it. He’s really bummed. He was passionate about this project.’
