The Hilton heiress could be facing a stint in jail, after police found cocaine in her purse in Las Vegas
Oh dear. Paris Hilton is in trouble again, and could be facing up to four years in jail, after police who pulled her car over in Las Vegas found cocaine in her handbag.
The Hilton heiress – who had been visiting the gambling capital with rumoured beau Cy Waits – was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, after suspicious officers spotted marijuana smoke coming from her car.
Paris was pulled over by police - who found a small bag of cocaine in her handbag - and taken into custody.
The sneaky star was released just hours later, claiming it was all a misunderstanding, and that the illegal drug must have been left in the bag, which she had borrowed from a friend.
But it seems she may have had some trouble getting her story straight, as records show she changed her version of events several times, first saying she had not seen the bag of white powder, then claiming she had seen it, but thought it was chewing gum.
‘She said several cosmetic items inside the purse were not hers,’ a police report read.
‘She said she had not seen it but now thought it was gum.’
Denying the allegations, Paris insists the contents of her bag were split between her and a friend, claiming ownership of $1,300 cash, her credit cards, cigarette wrappers and an Aluterol pill, but not the cocaine.
And now the socialite has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, according to US reports. Her boyfriend was charged with DUI.
Paris will appear in court on October 27 and has hired top defence lawyer David Chesnoff, who has said ‘the facts of the situation will be tested in a courtroom.’ But if convicted, she could face up to four years in jail.
Seemingly untroubled by the allegations, the star still found time to take to Twitter, thanking followers for their support. ‘I'm so thankful to all my fans for all the love and support you are giving me. Thank you all. Love you so much. Love Paris xoxo,’ she Tweeted.
Unfortunately for Paris, this is not the first time she has had a brush with the law. She spent a day in a Californian prison back in 2007, and was arrested on suspicion of drug possession at the World Cup in South Africa earlier this year.
