EXCLUSIVE! Olly Murs tells Marie Claire why he’ll always be on the show’s side

Olly Murs may be a pop and TV presenting sensation but he clearly hasn’t forgotten his roots and despite regular press attacking X Factor, he was quick to jump to the show’s defense when we asked if he felt obliged to be positive about Simon Cowell’s talent show.

The singer told us: ‘I’m a great ambassador for the show, I had success from it and I’ll always defend the X Factor - it changed my life completely.’

When we addressed the accusations that the show is a fix, Olly jumped in immediately saying: ‘I hope it wasn’t orchestrated, I’ve been on the show [as a contestant] I’d hate to think that all that stuff isn’t real.'

The diplomatic celebrity soon ramped up his argument adding: ‘Whatever everyone’s opinions on the show it changed my life. One Direction wouldn’t be where they are if it wasn’t for X Factor.'

While the band are the show’s biggest success, this year’s most controversial contestant, Rylan, isn’t predicted for the same stardom. Olly once again justified his spot on the show:

‘This year Rylan is the joke act. He’s the funny one and he knows he’s not going to win, but he’s a funny entertaining guy that people want to see on a Saturday night.’

And if that wasn’t enough to convince you of Olly’s dedication to the X Factor he also had this to say about judge Gary Barlow: ‘I respect Gary so much, not only do I work with him but I’m good friends with him.’

What do you make of Olly Murs’ comments? Is he right to defend the X Factor?
