She might have made her name cooking on television but it seems Nigella Lawson doesn't think that she would fair very well on the Great British Bake Off. In fact, the chef who has made millions from her TV shows and cookery books says that she is 'just a home cook.' We think someone is down-playing their talents here, Nigella.
Nigella told the Radio Times: 'I wouldn't get on Bake Off, it's too complicated. I like baking in a homespun kind of way - if I make cookies, I don't expect them all to look the same. I'm not being modest; I'm a home cook.' Alright then.
She also added that she feels like there is a level of performance that goes into being on the famous cooking competition - hosted by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood - which is not something she is interested in. Nigella said: 'I don't know if I take myself seriously enough. There's a circus act element, which really makes me cringe. I'm not actually a performer.'
Nigella also revealed that she won't be turning all Jamie Oliver on us and telling us what to eat: 'I'm a pretty shambolic person,' she said, 'I don't have the qualifications to say to people, "You can't eat that, you can't eat this." I'm not in a position to preach anything to anyone else.'
Later this year Nigella will be back in our living rooms with her new series, Simply Nigella. The show will see her cooking dishes from her home kitchen, from healthy breakfasts you can make everyday to simple dinners. Nigella said: 'It’s about food that makes our life easier, that makes us feel better, more alive and less stressed.'
