After one false alarm, Nicole took finally took the plunge and switched up her hair colour

Nicole Richie has purple hair - and this time it's not just because of some fancy Photoshop work.

Last week, the reality star, 32, posted an Instagram snap of herself with bright lilac waves. But it wasn't enough to fool her friends.

Kelly Osbourne quickly realised that Nicole had actually just doctored up an older picture of her with blonde hair to create the digital dye job.

'I'm in loooooove with @nicolerichie even more now I have seen this pic! I dare you to make it permanent so we can match!!!'

Well, apparently Nicole was convinced. She dyed her strands for real and debuted the look at an Oscars after-party.

Kelly shared the first snap of her pal's new 'do, though it was a bit too dark to tell for sure. 'Guess took the bet & dyed there hair MY color @nicolerichie [sic],' she wrote.

But it wasn't until Nicole shared this lovely shot on Monday that we were finally able to see her new shade in all its glory.

We're loving Nicole's bold new look. Let's hope she keeps it around long enough for us to get a glimpse of it out of that updo.
