America's First Lady even managed to blag series three before it's shown in the US

Michelle Obama is so obsessed with Downton Abbey that she 'begged' ITV bosses to ship her over series three, ahead of its official US launch. It seems the reach of the ITV1 drama phenomenon that is Downton Abbey has captivated even the highest powers, after it emerged Michelle Obama and her hubby Barack are such big fans they could not wait till 6 January for the latest series to be aired.

Being married to the Prez and all, Michelle was able to pull a few strings and get the third series of the period drama sent over so she and Barack could cosy up on the couch and catch up with UK viewers.

A source on the hit ITV1 show told The Sun newspaper: 'We know it’s very popular in America as it’s so quintessentially British. We’d heard the Obamas liked to watch it but we were very surprised when someone from the First Lady’s office got in touch asking for the series.

'They were very polite and we were more than happy to sort out some DVDs for them to send over. Obviously we hope they keep the spoilers to themselves as our US fans may not know about... well, you know what!'
