Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton shared a sweet sister-in-law moment at Trooping the Colour
Duchesses gotta stick together.
Duchesses gotta stick together.
We spent all of last week eagerly awaiting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Buckingham Palace balcony moment at Trooping the Colour and while we didn’t get an iconic fairytale kiss, we did get a wonderful moment between Meghan and Kate Middleton. The sisters-in-law were snapped grinning at each other amidst the fanfare and we’re totally here for this friendship.
The duchesses both joined their other halves on the terrace for the traditional Trooping the Colour flyby, when jet planes streaming with coloured smoke zip past the Queen’s royal residence. While they posed and looked serene for the inevitable photo opp, they also took a couple of moments to chat warmly with one another and we’d die to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.
Another photo of the moment had us in stitches though, but not because of anything either of the two women did. If you look down in the bottom right corner, Isla Phillips is living her best life and greeting the public with a very Princess Diaries wave. It is a MOOD.
Kate and Meghan's friendship seems to be a sweet one, as it's said that Kate actually helped introduced Meghan to her favourite fashion brands based locally. Meghan also repaid the gesture in kind by allegedly giving Kate an actual friendship bracelet at her own wedding to Prince Harry. It was a gold Zofia Day bracelet - they go hard in the Royal Family evidently.
Trooping the Colour was one of Meghan’s first public outings with the entire royal family and she looked every bit the part. While her off-the-shoulder dress drew some criticism for breaking royal protocol, clearly nobody on the balcony seemed to mind as she joked around with Prince Charles, Prince William and Camilla.
A royal photographer previously said that snapping a photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle alone was impossible because they're inseparable and constantly making eyes at each other. While they’ve mostly reined it in, we did catch one sweet moment between the newlyweds. Harry, who stayed glued to his wife’s side the whole time, made Meghan lose her regal composure with some wisecrack - forcing her to turn away from the cameras as she burst into giggles.

Trooping the Colour was the gift that kept on giving year, as the young Phillips sisters both stole the show. Savannah, Isla’s older sister, took it upon herself to keep her cousin Prince George in line and scolded him with a stern finger. When the unruly royal didn’t listen to her, she then put her hand over his mouth to shut him up while her sister Isla was in stitches the whole time.
It’s great to see that Meghan’s being welcomed into the quintessential British family with open arms, as we can imagine it’s an incredibly daunting prospect. However with her massive CV of humanitarian and Hollywood work as well as Harry by her side, we bet she’ll do just fine.
