Matthew McConaughey will take over Owen Wilson's role in Ben Stiller movie Tropic Thunder
Matthew McConaughey is stepping up to fill Owen Wilson's shoes in Ben Stiller-directed movie Tropic Thunder.
Owen, 38, pulled out of the DreamWorks movie after an apparent suicide attempt last month.
McConaughey's publicist, Nicole Perez, has confirmed the star will have an uncredited cameo role in the movie, which tells the story of a group of actors who gather on an island to make a war film only to find themselves having to become the soldiers they are playing.
Owen was whisked to hospital after police responded to a call from his Santa Monica home; the star had reportedly tried to slash his wrist and taken a cocktail of drugs. The day after he was hospitalised, Wilson issued a statement asking for privacy so he could 'receive care and heal'.
Meanwhile, things are looking rosy for Matthew – he's also just signed up to play gorgeous Jennifer Garner's love interest in new movie Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
