She's a world-famous actress who most men would kill to take out, but even Lupita has had some romantic setbacks...
We've been having a lot of fun this week with these celebrity prom pictures, featuring everyone from a young Brad Pitt in a powder blue tux to a grinning teenage Blake Lively looking like a Disney princess in a tiara and rhinestone gown.
But one A-lister who has a less than fortunate prom night story is Lupita Nyong'o. The Oscar-winning actress went on Late Night With Seth Meyers to promote her new off-Broadway show Eclipsed and spoke about her own disastrous prom night that she experienced as a teenager, growing up in Kenya.
'There was this guy in my neighbourhood that I thought was so cute' Lupita told Meyers, 'I didn't talk to him much but I gathered up the guts to ask him to prom.'
Lupita was designing her own dress for her big night and - rather sweetly - even let the guy know what the 'colour scheme' for their outfits would be. Lupita had planned to wear red and yellow so asked him to fit his outfit around that.
'But he didn't show up' Lupita said, despite the actress being on the school prom night committee. 'Maybe he didn't have a red suit?' she joked.
We wonder if the chap in question regrets not turning up now...

As for Lupita, she's probably made up for it since with plenty of prom-worthy moments on the red carpet. Particularly the night she won the Oscar and twirled in front of the world’s cameras in this Prada show-stopper:
The actress is currently taking a break from her movie schedule to star in off-Broadway show Eclipsed, written by The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira, and focused on the roles women played in the Liberian Civil War.
Before the show came out Lupita released a hand-written list of information for fans coming to watch the show on Twitter.
‘Being in the play is an emotionally intense experience for me’ she wrote, ‘and it means a lot to me to see your bright faces afterwards at the stage door each night. Thank you!’
She also has several other big films in the pipeline, including a Jungle Book adaptation and the next Star Wars movie
