After a whirlwind romance that many thought wouldn’t last, Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne have announced that they are engaged to be married after the ex-cricketer proposed during a trip to Scotland.
Australian Warne asked the Austin Powers actress to marry him during a romantic dinner on Friday at a luxury hotel in St Andrews, where he was taking part in a golf tournament.
According to eyewitnesses in the restaurant at the Old Course Hotel, Shane proposed to Liz – who he’s been dating for ten months – over dinner but didn’t get down on one knee.
They told The Sun newspaper: ‘When it was announced the other guests in the restaurant stood up and applauded. Everyone there was absolutely delighted.’
The couple later confirmed the news on Twitter, where they both tweeted the same message and a picture of them together as they headed out to the Alfred Dunhill Links Pro-Am Championship Dinner. They said: ‘Thanks for all your congratulations. Here’s a pic of us about to go to Dunhill dinner in St Andrews.’
Yesterday Liz took to Twitter again, tweeting: ‘Lazy, lovely day in Scotland. Happy!’

She added: ‘Thanks again for all your lovely messages. Means a lot to us x’
The happy couple, along with Liz's son Damien, later took to the famous course for a spot of golf, where the 46-year-old flashed her engagement ring, which looks to be a diamond and sapphire design not too dissimilar to Kate Middleton's.
The nuptials will be the second marriage for both Liz and Shane. The actress wed textiles heir Arun Nayar in 2007, but the couple divorced in June four years later, and ex-bowling whiz Shane divorced his wife Simone in 2006 after marrying ten years earlier.
