Lion Babe's Jillian Hervey: “My Mum Taught Me To Be Independent”

Lion Babe singer Jillian Hervey has spoken out getting advice from her famous mum, Vanessa Williams.

We don’t know about you but we’re pretty obsessed with Lion Babe singer Jillian Hervey. Especially because her Mum is none other than Ugly Betty star, Vanessa Williams.

And it’s her Mum who the singer claims has kept her grounded and helped her to deal with fame. In a new interview with the Metro she revealed that she felt that she had a better handle on stardom than most thanks to having a famous mother.

She told the paper: “Growing up with my Mom in that world. I am very aware of what happens. I will always be conscious to make sure I am protecting myself.” She went on to add: “She [Vanessa] always taught us to be independent and work through things our own first.”

Jillian makes up one half of Lion Babe, along with instrumentalist Lucas Goodman, and she has previously revealed that the pair want to create music which helps people to celebrate their uniqueness.

She told Interview: “There is an uplifting theme that comes through our music. There's also funk, soul, and that vibe of really feeling a personality in it.”

She continued: “Nowadays there's a lot of music that sounds super processed. You can't tell one singer from the next because of the amount of auto-tune. Our goal is to tell the masses to embrace their uniqueness, because I think that's where life starts to happen.”
