Leona Lewis turns down $1 million Harrods offer
Leona Lewis turned down a massive $1 million offer to open the Harrods sale, because of her strict vegetarian principles.
The X Factor winner was approached by Mohamed Al Fayed, The Times reports, but rejected his offer because the Knighstbridge store sells fur.
Previous stars to open the sale have included Kim Cattrall, Lily Allen, Eva Longoria and Christina Aguilera, and with duties involving little more than cutting the red ribbon, Lewis would not even have been required to sing for the lucrative deal.
But her strict vegetarian rules came first, and as an avid campaigner for animal rights, the singer is strongly opposed to the sale of fur.
She recently wrote in a blog, 'I'm totally against animal cruelty. I don't have clothes, shoes or bags made from any animal products.'
Now set to launch her own ethical line of accessories, she added, 'I'm kind of in the real beginning stages of it. I'm not sure when it will be out, but I hope very soon.'
