Lady Gaga has admitted she battled bulimia as a teenager after wanting to become 'a skinny little ballerina,' revealing she only overcame the eating disorder after it began to damage her vocal chords.

Speaking at a young women’s conference hosted by the estranged wife of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gaga told how she used to 'throw up in high school' in pursuit of a perfect body, but finally beat bulimia after it started to impact on her career.
'Bulimia made my voice bad so I had to stop. The acid on your vocal cords — it's very bad,' she revealed.
'But for those of you who don't sing, you maybe don't have that excuse until it's too late. It's very dangerous.'
Explaining how she developed the disorder, she told the teens: ‘I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous Italian girl with meatballs on the table every night.

‘I used to come home and say, “Dad, why do you always give us this food? I need to be thin.” And he’d say, “Eat your spaghetti”'.
Having having beaten the disease, Gaga told the youngsters not to compare themselves to the digitally enhanced images they see in magazines, warning: 'It's not real life'.
'Every video I'm in, every magazine cover, they stretch you, they make you perfect. It's not real life,' she said.
The Lady, who has often come under fire for her super-slim figure, ended her serious chat with a stark warning to the teens - that the 'dieting wars' need to come to an end.
‘I’m gonna say this, girls – the dieting wars have got to stop. Everyone, just knock it off. Because at the end of the day, it’s affecting kids your age and it’s making girls sick,' she said.
'I'm encouraging you to know what you're worth.
'And know that no matter who has more money in class, who has more stuff, who has a country house — nobody is worth more than anybody else.'
