Kelis reveals that her hit single "Milkshake" was all a lie because she doesn't even like milkshakes.
Remember when Kelis sang: “My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and they’re like, it’s better than yours, damn right, it’s better than yours, I can teach you, but I have to charge.” Remember that? Well that was a lie.
Because Kelis DOESN’T EVEN LIKE MILKSHAKE,in fact, she can’t even remember the last time that she had one. That’s right people the last 12 years of your life have been a total lie and yes that song did come out in 2003 and it makes us feel very old as well. Disappointed and old.
Kelis told the Metro: “I know that this sounds weird but I don’t know if I have ever actually made a milkshake. I haven’t. I can’t remember the last time I had one or made one.” And then, as if that wasn’t enough, as if our hopes and dreams and cultural references weren’t completely crushed she added: “I make juice. I’m not a big milkshake fan.”
So just to recap, Kelis, the American pop singer who owes a large proportion of her fame to a song about Milkshake, doesn’t even like milkshake, hasn’t ever made one and actually only likes juice. Yep.
Kelis also revealed that she doesn’t pay attention to other people’s work as it distracts her from her own: “When I am working, I am not watching anyone. I’m so infiltrated by other people’s ideas. I have a hard idea sorting through my own. It sounds arrogant but it’s really not.”
In other less disappointing news the singer is currently expecting her second child. She announced her happy news at the Afropunk festival earlier this week. There is no word yet as to who the father is although it is thought that Kelis has been secretly dating someone since last year. We’re guessing it was her juice that attracted him…
