Katy Perry and John Mayer have apparently called time on their relationship again, with sources citing their busy schedules as a catalyst for the break-up.

The hot 'n' cold pair were first spotted together in June before calling it quits in August, only to be reunited the following month, but alas it was not meant to be with numerous sources now confirming Katy and John's split.

'It's sad,' a source told Us Weekly. 'It's not over until it's over. You have to see how things play out,' while another source blamed the couple's busy schedules, saying, 'She's leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work.'

Singer John- who has previously dated Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift – recently said that their romance felt ‘human’.

He said: 'I don’t feel like I’m in a celebrity relationship. For the first time in my life I don’t feel like I’m in a celebrity relationship. I know it is high profile. It’s hard to explain ... For me it feels like something that’s very human.'

The 35-year-old also admitted that he had thought about marriage, revealing: 'Of course. I mean, I’m still the kid from Connecticut. That’s what you do.'
