Which is why we have special affection in our hearts for Katie Holmes. The long-suffering wife of Hollywood's leading Scientologist was pictured out and about in New York, very sensibly wrapped up against the freezing cold in a thick coat, woolly hat and scarf and a make-up free face.

After a week of seeing another Katie plastered all over the tabloids, a dolled-up one who seems to be a little more fame-hungry than Katie Holmes, it was refreshing to see the American actress stopping off for a morning coffee, looking a little bleary-eyed on her way to a morning meeting. We've all been there right?

The down-to-earth star has just returned to New York after a trip to Miami, where she joined husband Tom Cruise and his 15-year-old adopted son Connor for the Super Bowl.
